If you’ve ever owned an outdoor heater, you know the struggle. Rain happens. Humidity creeps in. And before you know it, your expensive piece of gear just… stops. Usually, it’s because moisture got inside and fried the circuitry or caused the heating element to burn out. That’s why we build our heaters to the IP65 standard.
Fighting the Rain (and the Fog)
In plain English, IP65 means the unit is totally dust-tight and can handle water jets hitting it from any direction. No problem. We do this with sealed gaskets and special membranes at every single opening. But here’s the thing: water isn’t the only enemy.Condensation is a silent killer. Most heaters fail because moisture builds up inside the housing. When the heater kicks on, that cold moisture creates “cold spots” on the glass, and snap—the tube cracks. We fixed that by designing a specific airflow path that keeps the quartz tube dry and happy.
The Guts of the Machine
We don’t cut corners on the materials. We use high-grade quartz glass for the emitters because it can handle the wild temperature swings of a winter night. Inside, we use potted connectors and sealed wiring. It means if water hits the casing, it just slides right off instead of pooling around the electrical terminals. It’s built for those annoying places where the humidity changes every hour.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
Now, there’s a catch. When you seal something this tightly to keep water out, you restrict the airflow. Because it’s so airtight, heat can build up inside the chassis.This is where you come in. Make sure your mounting brackets give the unit plenty of room to breathe. If you tuck it too close to a ceiling or a tight soffit, the internal temp will spike, and your capacitors will wear out way faster than they should. Oh, and one last tip: always wire it up with a properly rated GFCI breaker. These infrared arrays pull a lot of current. Do it right, and your heater will actually last for years instead of dying after one rainy season.
