
Picking the Right Infrared Heater for Your Bathroom
When you’re looking for an infrared lamp for the bathroom, your first instinct might be to just grab the one with the biggest number on the box. But that’s usually a mistake. It’s not about raw power; it’s about how that heat actually hits you and how much space it has to fill. Plus, bathrooms are wet. Steam, splashes, humidity—it’s a mess for electronics. That’s why we only use waterproof-rated lamps. It keeps things from shorting out or rusting away. Getting the wattage right Think about the size of your room. If you’ve got a tiny powder room (under 4m²), a 400W to 600W lamp is plenty. If you go higher, you’re basically turning your bathroom into a sauna, which isn’t always the goal. For those mid-sized bathrooms (4m² to 8m²), we usually go with 800W to 1200W. Then you have the big master baths. If you’re over 10m², a single lamp usually won’t cut it. You’ll end up with “cold spots” where you’re shivering in one corner while the other is roasting. In those cases, it’s better to use a few different heat points or one heavy-duty 1500W+ array. The trade-off Here’s the thing about high-wattage lamps: they are fast. Really fast. You flip the switch and you feel the heat almost instantly. But there’s a catch. Your electrical panel has limits. If you plug three 1200W lamps into one circuit, you’re probably going to trip the breaker the moment you turn them all on. It’s worth double-checking your wiring and the gauge of your cables so nothing gets too hot behind the walls. Dealing with the damp Moisture is the enemy here. We use sealed quartz tubes and IP-rated housings to keep the steam out of the guts of the machine. One quick tip: even if the lamp is waterproof, don’t install it where it’s going to get splashed directly. It’ll make your life easier. Mineral buildup from water can cloud the glass, and once that happens, the infrared waves can’t get through. You’ll end up with a heater that barely works and a reflector that looks dull. Keep it dry, and it’ll last way longer.
