
Keeping Things Warm Without the Blinding Glare
Most infrared lamps are just too bright. If you’ve ever looked at one, you know that piercing light can be brutal—and that’s even worse for baby chicks or infants whose eyes are way more sensitive than ours. We figured out a better way. Instead of just blasting raw radiation, we use special coatings and filament materials to filter out those harsh blue-light peaks. The result? A “soft” glow. You still get all the heat you need, but without that blinding flash that makes you want to squint.
How the heat actually works
Inside the unit, there’s a quartz halogen tube. We keep a close eye on the filament temperature so most of the energy stays in the long-wave infrared range. Why does that matter? Because long-wave IR sinks into the surface better and doesn’t carry as much visible light. We then add a selective coating to the glass to block the specific wavelengths that stress out the retina. It means your chicken coop or nursery stays cozy and warm, but the light stays dim and diffused.
Built for the messy stuff
Let’s be real: coops and industrial spaces are wet. Water and electricity don’t mix. To stop moisture from hitting the electrodes, we used a sealed glass-to-metal interface. We also wrapped the housing in materials that can handle high humidity without shorting out, held together by heat-resistant silicone gaskets. One quick tip: if you’re installing these in a damp area, make sure your junction boxes are just as heavy-duty as the lamps. You don’t want the connection point to be the one thing that fails.
The trade-off
Here’s the thing: when you filter out the light, you lose a bit of that immediate “punch” you get from a clear halogen bulb. It takes a few extra moments to warm up. But it’s a trade worth making. It’s much better than stressing out your livestock or babies with too much light. Just double-check your wattage against the size of your space. Since the filter changes things slightly, you want to make sure you’ve got enough power to keep the room truly warm.
